janet thomas - AKA Jaytee
........has been painting in Watercolour, on and off, since childhood - but not with any regularity until moving to Herefordshire in 2002. Since then she has had a joint exhibition at Erwood Station Gallery and a solo exhibition at Ludlow Assembly Rooms Cafe Gallery Dec 2008 - Jan 2009 and several works featured on RedBubble ('Catherine', 'The Jigsaw' , 'The Fishing Lesson' and many more). Janet is a professional member of the SAA and, as 'Jaytee', of two international internet art forums Painting Friends and Wet Canvas! . More recently she started working with soft pastels and has been accepted into the Pastel Guild of Europe. Janet is currently renovating an empty restaurant in her home town in Herefordshire on the Welsh Borders which will open as THE KINGTON GALLERY in the early Summer of 2010 for local artists as well as classes, workshops etc.
Her 'style' has in recent years developed in a direction unusual for watercolourists, in that it involves more 'blending' and less 'glazing' and fewer washes than does traditional watercolour. Sometimes her work is even mistaken for pastels....... and since 2010 has been exploring this media ! Her current style (and this is constantly evolving) is neither very 'loose' nor photorealistic but somewhere in between and is highly suited to portraiture : she specialises in childrens portraits on commission.
Some of Janet's paintings and photographs are available as prints and cards etc at her Redbubble Site
If you cannot find what you want there, let her know and she can arrange to have it available
Previously, after a long career in BBC Radio and many years as a producer on 'Woman's Hour' Janet trained as, and became a registered member of The Society of Garden Designers. Though she no longer pursues this activity professionally, her own garden is her passion ........... From time to time she opens her garden for charity, either solo or as part of 'Kington Open Gardens' though when THE KINGTON GALLERY opens in early summer 2010 there will be less time for gardening ... but more for painting!
Here is a self portrait painted in September 2009
